Listserv FAQ v1.1 (11/27/95) - Maintained by Pete Nelson

==========================================================================
Q: After someone sends a message to my mailing list, I find messages
from my mailing list addressed back to my mailing list. Help!!
A: Incoming messages will have a standard message header added to them
by the site that sent the message. These headers will include who
and where the message is from, date and time, message ID, and a lot of
other info. One specific piece of info is who the message is addressed
to, and will look like this in the header:
To: wildcat-l@terminal-one.com
This indicates that the message is addressed to the user Wildcat-L at
the domain terminal-one.com.
When Listserv processes an incoming message and sends it to the mailing
list subscribers, it sends the entire message out, including the header.
This includes the line in the header that has the "To:" information.
The reason the messages get looped back to the mailing list is that
wcGATE sees the "To:" information on the outgoing messages and sends
the message back to the mailing list.
"Ok, now how do I automatically get rid of the 'To:' line?"
The Listserv filter file (LISTSERV.FLT) will specifcy which lines get
removed from outgoing messages. Just simply type in the "To:" line
as it appears in the header of incoming messages for your mailing lists.
It is not case sensitive, but it does have to match exactly what is in
the message header. There may be several variations on the "To:"
information, and all of those will have to be listed in the filter
file.
Listserv will remove any lines listed in the filter file from the
outgoing messages on the mailing lists. wcGATE will no longer see a
"To:" line in the message and will no longer loop messages back to the
mailing list.
Author's Note: With the v2.77 release, Listserv should filter out this
stuff automatically.

Q: Can I get a copy of the source code?
A: Yes you can! It is available for a $15 fee, and is good for all future
releases of Listserv. See the ORDER.FRM file for more details.
